Several companies are available to provide you with packing professionals as well as materials to pack your full house or few selected items. It depends on the plan that you opt for. Whether you are packing all by yourself or getting it done by professionals, in both ways this page is beneficial for your move. It preps you for a better move.

  • Pack according to season. If you are moving in summer or spring, then you can keep your winter clothes and all the winter items packed together until next winter.
  • Begin at the top of the house. Begin packing from the attic or from the rarely used rooms and then move towards frequently visited rooms.
  • Tie up electrical cords. If there are electrical cords hanging or just placed across the floor, then tie them up securely with bag ties, rubber band to prevent getting tangled.
  • Pack your current phone book. Don’t forget to pack your phone book as you might need to contact people in the new home town.
  • Ask a friend to help. Keep your children in any of your friend’s house to facilitate the moving process.
  • Make sure the items you need first are loaded last. You will be able to get access to your required items easily.
  • Plan ahead for what you will need the first day. Pack an overnight kit and a survival kit before commencing the move. These kits will be handy just the next day after completion of the move.
  • Never wrap lamp shades in news paper. The paper ink might get soaked or might blot the shades, so use 3 - 4 folds of tissue paper, pillowcase, or a large lightweight towel.
  • Identify each box.  Each box should be labeled to understand the content.
  • Drain all power and yard tool. To avoid leakage.
  • Clean the refrigerator. Keep the door of the refrigerator open for a while to lessen the humidity, put some baking soda inside to get rid of the musty smell.
  • Safeguard your important documents. The documents like birth & marriage certificates, medical records, school records, passports, pet records, credit card & banking records, tax returns are important as well as confidential. So, make a file to keep all your documents safely. Do not thrust them in the truck.
  • Pack your boxes with heavy items at the bottom. Lighter materials should be kept on top. Use smaller boxes because carrying bigger boxes can be difficult for you.
  • Protect your flooring. Tape old sheets or vinyl runner on the floor to protect it from scratches and damages, on the moving day.
  • Pack containers tightly. To avoid the chances of shifting.
  • Wrap electric items separately. The electric items should not be wrapped in bubble wrapper as the static electricity might cause problem. Wrap, pack and cushion them properly to avoid damage.
  • Empty the contents chests and dressers. An empty chest, closet etc is easier to carry due to the light weight, moreover it does not put much pressure on the joints of the furniture.
  • Be prepared with an itemized master list.  You should have the detail of the boxes along with the contents in it to avoid loosing any valuables.
  • Load your plants in the moving truck last. To make it easier to check on them as well as unload them first.
